Crowns are like small caps that fit over your original tooth, and are often used to preserve your tooth’s shape, as well as keeping it strong.
Crowns can be used to strengthen a weak or broken tooth (especially when there’s not enough of the original tooth left to make a filling practical) to help support a bridge, or simply for cosmetic reasons.
Should you need a crown, Adnan will offer you advice on the best solution for your needs and help you decide the best way to proceed.
As the name suggests, a bridge literally covers the gap left by one or more missing teeth. These ‘false’ teeth are called pontics, they can be made from a variety of materials including ceramics, gold or porcelain.
If they’re strong enough, your existing healthy teeth can be used to support a bridge – otherwise an implant or crown might be used to keep the bridge secure. When fitted correctly (which of course is something we take great care over) you’ll never even know you have a bridge – it will look and feel just like your normal teeth.
Where more than two or three teeth need to be removed (or have fallen out naturally) either full or partial dentures can be fitted to restore your smile to its former glory.
Dentures are removable false teeth, and every set of dentures is unique: specifically crafted to fit your gums to ensure maximum comfort and effectiveness.
Just like other forms of replacement tooth, modern dentures are virtually impossible to detect when they’re in place. Should you need dentures we can carry out the entire procedure painlessly, and give you all the advice and support you need to keep your dentures in perfect condition for years to come
- GUM DISEASE TREATMENT
Contrary to what many people think, pain is not always the first symptom of gum disease. It’s vital to check your gums regularly for redness or swelling, or for bleeding when you brush.
Catching gum disease in these early stages (known as gingivitis) often means it can be treated much easier than if left until pain starts.
We highly recommend making regular checkup appointments so that we can check your teeth and gums for you – but it’s important to be aware of the condition of your own teeth in between appointments. Should you spot any of the above symptoms (or if you find you are suffering from bad breath or an unusual taste in your mouth) please make an appointment to see us as soon as possible.
What Is Involved in Getting a Dental Implant?
The first step in the dental implant process is the development of an individualized treatment plan. The plan addresses your specific needs and is prepared by our in house dentists who are trained and experienced in implant treatments and restorative dentistry.
This approach provides coordinated care based on the implant option that is best for you. Next, the tooth root implant, which is a small post made of titanium, is placed into the bone socket of the missing tooth.
As the jawbone heals, it grows around the implanted metal post, anchoring it securely in the jaw. The healing process can take from six to 12 weeks. Once the implant has bonded to the jawbone, a small connector post — called an abutment — is attached to the post to securely hold the new tooth. To make the new tooth or teeth, your dentist makes impressions of your teeth, and creates a model of your bite (which captures all of your teeth, their type, and arrangement).
The new tooth or teeth is based on this model. A replacement tooth, called a crown, is then attached to the abutment. Instead of one or more individual crowns, some patients may have attachments placed on the implant that retain and support a removable denture.
Orthodontics is the area of dentistry in which tooth and jaw adjustments are made that have a wrong position.
Crooked teeth or misalignments in the temporomandibular joint are more difficult to manipulate in dental hygiene, therefore, the risk for tooth decay or periodontal disease is higher.
This can also cause stress in the mouth and affect the muscles of mastication and lead to head, neck, shoulder, back pain.
